Former Valencia midfielder Jose Castillejo is another unfortunate addition to the devastating Spanish flash floods’ victims. The worst flooding catastrophe in decades has already taken the lives of over 150 people.
Castillejo, a former Spanish footballer, built his career as an academy player for the Spanish team, Valencia C.F. The central midfielder represented Valencia through their under-19 team, before his unfortunate death at the age of 28.

Castillejo began his youth career at Valencia as an academy player. He then featured for different teams in the Valencian community over the years.
During his career, Jose also played for clubs like CD Bunol, Paterna, Roda, Torre Levante, Vilamarxant, and Recambios Colon. He had a six-month stint with the Spanish second-tier team, Eldense in 2016.
What Was Jose Castillejo’s Cause Of Death?
Castillejo died on October 31, 2024, due to Spain’s most devastating flash floods in decades. The 28-year-old footballer was among the 158 casualties, with the death toll expected to rise in coming days.
Valencia, where Castillejo grew up and played club football, was hit the worst by the disaster. Spanish emergency teams have been looking into every house in the city, fearful of finding more dead bodies.
Following Jose’s sad passing, his former team, Valencia C.F., released a statement offering condolences to the deceased footballer.
“We regret the death of Jose Castillejo, a victim of the Dana disasters. He was part of the club’s Academy until his youth stage and has played for several teams in the Valencian community. RIP,” the statement read.
Likewise, Castillejo’s other former club, Eldense also paid tribute to the late footballer and his family.
“We deeply regret Jose Castillejo’s passing at 28, a former blue-and-red player in the 2015/2016 season. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” the club statement read.
