Her mother, Barbara is a former elite basketball player. Barbara, age 72, was the star of her high school basketball team in Garden City, Long Island, in the 1970s.

Barbara possessed a great passion for the game which was later inherited by her daughter. However, she was rather punished for her qualities than being rewarded.

Barbara recalled her basketball years and claimed that she was kicked out of the biggest games of the year citing she played too rough. While it came from others, she had to call quits on her basketball career and focus on a new perspective on life.

After ending her basketball career, Barbara served as an antique dealer. She later became a full-time mom to Sue and her younger brother, Frank Altman.

Growing up in New Jersey, Altman attended Clinton Public School and Voorhees High School. She then obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Columbia University in 2005.

Sue joined Oxford University in 2011 to pursue two master’s degrees. She completed her Master of Business Administration degree and Master of Science degree in International and Comparative Education at Oxford in 2013.

Is Sue Altman Married?

Sue’s marital status has become a topic of concern for many since she put her name as the New Jersey Congressional candidate. However, her Instagram posts are filled with pictures of her dog, Bella, rather than her possible husband.

On the occasion of #NationalDog Day on August 27, 2024, Sue recalled the story of how she met Bella 13 years ago. She wrote on her Instagram post,

“When I brought her (Bella) home from the shelter, she was scared of garbage cans, tree stumps, and thunder! We’re still working on thunder…”
